Where to Find Free School Supplies

School is back in session … and it’s not cheap! If you need assistance collecting supplies for the new school year — or you’re interested in donating — here are a few upcoming local supply drives to get your backpack filled up.

Denver Indian Center

When: Thursday, Aug. 10, 3-5 p.m.

Where: Denver Indian Center, 4407 Morrison Road

What: Backpacks and school supplies will be available for free (while they last) to students registered with the Native American Culture and Education (NACE) organization. Your student must be on the DPS-NACE list to qualify. For more information, call 720-423-2042 or email rmcguir@dpsk12.net.

Packz for Kidz

When: Saturday, Aug. 12, 9 a.m. (until supplies run out)

Where: Denver Museum of Nature and Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd.

What: Kenzi’s Causes is handing out brand new backpacks filled with standard supplies, plus a toothbrush and toothpaste kit, water bottles, and lunch boxes on a first-come, first served basis to DPS students in Pre-K through 12th grade.

The Colorado Barber Giveback

When: Sunday, Aug. 13, 1-8 p.m.

Where: Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park, 801 S. Yarrow Street

What: Not only will this event offer school supply assistance, local barbers and hairdressers will come together to provide free back-to-school haircuts so every student can feel confident going back to the classroom.
