Denver has had the same mayor for the past 12 years. Finally the job is up for grabs, and a record 17 candidates want a shot at shaping Denver’s future. How will voters make their choice? City Cast Denver is here to help you hear every candidate’s vision for Denver. That’s right, we’re going to attempt to interview all 17 possible mayors.

Mayoral Candidates


Kelly Brough
Former CEO for the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce who has held various local government roles, including Chief of Staff for Mayor John Hickenlooper.

Lisa Calderón
Executive director of Emerge Colorado and served for two years as chief of staff for City Councilwoman Candi CdeBaca. She previously ran for mayor in 2019.

Chris Hansen
State lawmaker representing Denver for the last six years. Trained as an engineer and co-founded Colorado Energy + Water Institute.

Leslie Herod
Current State Representative who has worked on bills related to police accountability and bail reform, as well as mental healthcare funding at the city level.

Mike Johnston
State senator for eight years and champion of the education reform movement.

Debbie Ortega
Currently an At-Large City Councilwoman who has worked in local government for more than 40 years.

Terrance Roberts
Former gang member turned Park Hill community and civil rights activist.

Trinidad Rodriguez
An investment banker who’s served on the board of the Denver Housing Authority and as policy advisor for the Governor’s Policy Office and Office of Energy Conservation, as well as Colorado’s Department of Natural Resources.

Kwame Spearman
Co-owner and on-leave CEO of Tattered Cover. Kwame Spearman dropped out of the race on March 16 and endorsed Kelly Brough.

Ean Tafoya
Environmental justice advocate and community organizer with 20 years of experience working with and within local government.

Robert Treta
Owner of Treta Design and Build Inc., a contracting company.

James Walsh
CU Denver professor of political science, focusing on labor history and the politics of worker power.

Thomas Wolf
Investment banker who has worked for JP Morgan, Morgan Stanley, Credit Suisse, and currently works for Crewe Capital.

Al Gardner
IT executive who has worked in the public, startup, and nonprofit sectors. He has served on a number of boards and commissions, including the Denver Civil Service Commission, Denver African American Commission, and the Citizen Oversight Board.
