The only hard part about reading is, well, finding what to read. Here are five recs that you can find at bookstores in Denver.

1. New ACOTAR đŸŒč

Read: “A Court of Splintered Harmony” by Sarah J. Maas

The latest installment in Sarah J. Maas best-selling fantasy series comes out on Oct. 26. Pre-order it now from Spicy Librarian — and maybe sign up for their midnight release party? 🍾

2. Defiant Queer Crime Epic 🌮

Read: “The Disappearers” by Marlon James

Marlon James’ latest novel, available from The Shop at Matter, explores queer violence in Jamaica in the 1980s — and what it means to survive where you’re not accepted. It’s already been nominated for the Booker Prize, which James won in 2015.

3. Comforting Tear-Jerker 💗

Read: “Whistler” by Ann Patchett

Unconventional family structures, estranged love, and profound grief shape “Whistler,” which is easily one of my favorite books this year. Buy it from West Side Books. (The audiobook is gold, too 🎧).

4. More Spooky Season đŸ‘»

Read: The “Ninth House” Series by Leigh Bardugo

Secret societies, sixth senses, and dark magic collide in this fantasy trilogy. Start with the first two novels in the series, “Ninth House” and “Hell Bent,” before reading the third and final book, “Dead Beat.” All can be ordered from West Side Books.

5. Social Commentary with a Twisty End đŸŒŸ

Read: “Yesteryear” by Caro Claire Burke

Unlikable tradwife influencer gets transported back in time? Yup. Just read it. This one’s available at Little Blue Pigeon.
