| 🗞️ Denver Post Owner Settles with City for $13.5 Million | Nearly a year has passed since the owner of The Denver Post — DP Media Network LLC, which is owned by hedge fund Alden Global Capital — paid rent on the downtown building that still bears its name, but according to a settlement on Tuesday, the media company must now pay the city millions. The Denver Post hasn’t occupied this building since 2018, but when the city of Denver bought the building in 2024 for $88 million, the paper’s owner retained the master lease. [Colorado Sun] | - Change of hands: DP Media Network stopped paying the lease on the building in August 2025 because they wanted to terminate their contract, though they were still legally bound to it. Their monthly lease cost $650,000 and was set to continue into 2029. [Denver Post 🔐]
- Settling funds: A recent settlement ordered the media company to pay the city $13.5 million, which is less than 40% of what they would’ve owed through the remainder of the lease. This goes against previous statements by Mayor Mike Johnston, who promised to “recover every penny” that the city was owed. The agreement also states that ownership of multiple floors, in addition to parking spaces, will transfer to the city, who can subsequently rent out these spaces. [Denver Gazette 🔐; CBS News]
