🇺🇲 Colorado Honors 25th Anniversary of 9/11

It’s been 25 years since the terrorist attacks on New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington D.C. killed thousands of people, prompted wars on Afghanistan and Iraq, and transformed national security. Colorado residents are honoring first responders, paying homage to Coloradans killed in the attacks, and reflecting on what the event means today. [9News]

• United Airlines cancels Denver flyover: After city officials notified residents of a planned private flyover of a passenger jet and four fighter jets to commemorate pilots lost during 9/11, the community raised concern that led United to cancel. Among the pilots being honored was United Captain Jason M. Dahl, who resided in Littleton when he was killed on flight 93. [NPS]
• Denver will carry on with other honorary events. United will still unveil a 9-foot, 11-inch Flight Training Center monument made with steel salvaged from the 9/11 wreckage. Family members of first responders are sharing the legacies of their loved ones. [Denver Post 🔐]
• 9/11 photos on display: On assignment for FEMA, Denver-based photographer Michael Rieger captured images of the 9/11 recovery efforts for seven weeks after the disaster. Those photos are now on display at the CU Denver Experience Gallery until Sept, 27. [9News]

🚗 I-270 is Getting an $806M Overhaul

Transportation officials approved an $806 million project to reconstruct the 6.5 mile stretch of I-270 between U.S. 36 and I-70 to add an express lane. The project also includes replacing 12 bridges and rebuilding the Vasquez Boulevard interchange, with construction expected to start this fall. The changes are aimed at easing congestion and improving travel along one of the Denver metro’s busiest highway corridors. [Denver Gazette]
