Is Colorado About to Hike Taxes on the Rich? Your Guide to 87, 136 and Prop. NN
Colorado’s midterm election ballots are packed with big decisions for voters, including two competing taxation measures. Dr. Paul Teske, distinguished professor at CU Denver’s School of Public Affairs, joins host Bree Davies to parse out how Amendment 87 and Proposition 136 are different and what would happen if they both passed. They also discuss Proposition NN and Colorado’s school-funding conundrum, plus dig into TABOR and how the controversial 1992 constitutional amendment has, despite many attempts to dismantle it, stuck around for more than three decades.
Bree Mentioned past episodes with Colorado Times Recorder reporter Logan Davis about conservative group Advance Colorado and the organization’s influence on this year’s ballot. She also talked about the great series “The Taxman” from Colorado Public Radio about Douglas Bruce. Dr. Teske mentioned how some municipalities have addressed TABOR challenges through “debrucing.”
