August is National Peach Month, and here in Colorado we do it big and we do it right, thanks to the delectable harvests of our Western slope — of course I’m talking about Colorado’s famous Palisade peaches. If you can find time for the 3.5 hour drive to the sweet, juicy source (the town of Palisade, that is) you should do it! (Our friends at 5280 Magazine rounded up the best pit stops along the way.) But if you can’t manage the day trip, a few fellow readers called in with their favorite spots around town for your peach-pickin’ pleasure 🍑
Fruit Shak
Debbie says the Fruit Shak indoor farmers market in Aurora off Laredo Street and Dartmouth Avenue not only has a prime peach selection, but also “the world’s best peach salsa.”
Forté Fruits
Andrew wants to shout out Forté Fruits in Englewood for their great selection of Palisade peaches, as well as fresh produce from across the state, including plums, pluots, and apricots. You can also find Forté Fruits at farmers market stands across the metro.
Ela Family Farms
Mateo recommends visiting the Union Station farmers market and looking for the Ela Family Farms stand, a certified organic fourth-generation orchard.
Natural Grocers
Bennett, the assistant produce manager at Natural Grocers, says they’re overflowing with peaches this time of year, and if you swing by the South Broadway location on Sundays, you can even nab a sample!
BONUS!
For some peach-themed goodies, stop by The Golden Mill which is pouring peach flavored beers and ciders from the tap for the remainder of August. Also swing by Stanley Beer Hall, which took home the trophy at last year’s Burger Battle with its peach-inspired bite stacked with 100% Angus Beef, goat cheese, fresh Palisade peaches, peach pepper jelly, arugula, a balsamic glaze, and hot honey on a challah bun.
