Don’t let the rain fool you, summer is here and it’s gonna get HOT ☀️ 🥵 So here is your reminder: If you’re feeling the heat, so are your furry friends!
🌡️ Never EVER leave your pet in a hot vehicle, not even for a few minutes. The inside temperature of a car can become dangerously high, even with the windows cracked open.
🎾 Limit walks and other outdoor exercise to early morning or evening hours.
🐾 When you are outdoors, keep your pet on the grass and off hot sidewalks and asphalt. Also, carry a portable water bowl with you and offer drinks to your pet frequently.
💧 If you have to leave your pet outdoors, make sure they have access to plenty of shade and cool water.
⛈️ On the flip side, don’t forget about Colorado’s afternoon summer storms — make sure your outdoor pets have access to coverage where they can take shelter in the event of hail or a severe thunderstorm.
⚠️ Know the signs that your pet is overheated:
- Heavy panting even while lying down
- Obvious discomfort
- Red gums or tongue
- Lethargy and disorientation
