New year, new laws. On Jan. 1, 2026, 19 new state laws officially went into effect. Here are just a few worth having on your radar.

Abortion Access Protection (SB 25-183)

Abortion services are now covered by state-run insurance programs. Language in the state constitution protecting abortion access has also been codified.

Food Truck Permits Expansion (HB 25-1295)

Local food trucks can now operate across city and county lines with a new reciprocal licensing system.

Hidden Fees Ban (HB 25-1090)

Renters and consumers are now better protected against hidden fees from landlords and sellers thanks to new transparency requirements.

Gun Show Safety Requirements (HB 25-1238)

Gun show operators are required to submit a security plan to local law enforcement, hold liability insurance, and enforce an age limit for attendees.

Car Seat Insurance (HB 25-1179)

Car insurance companies must cover the cost to replace car seats or other child restraint systems following a crash.

Daycare Fee Refunds (SB 25-004)

Childcare centers must refund application fees, wait list fees, and deposits to families whose children are not enrolled.

Tenant Screening Protections (HB 25-1236)

Landlords cannot require a credit score or history from prospective tenants using housing subsidies.
