It’s becoming the Denver metro’s best-known secret — Havana Street is where you want to go when you’re hungry. Filled with bold flavors and international inspiration, excellent dining abounds along this stretch of street in Aurora — and Westword food writer Antony Bruno is on a mission to eat it all. So we invited him to join the City Cast Denver podcast to share some of his favorite spots so far.

Havana St. & E Warren Ave.

Of this unassuming taqueria, Antony says they’re serving up some of the best tacos he’s ever had. Their affordable, no-frills food is full of flavor, from the al pastor to the lengua.

Havana St. & E Jewell Ave.

Antony says the ramen here is worth a repeat visit — again and again! We suggest the black garlic tonkotsu ramen, which has a rich, creamy broth made from pork bones that’s simmered for hours.

Havana St. & E Evans Ave.

The housemade tofu is the star of the show here. Devour it in various stews and combo dishes. But meat-eaters fret not — proteins like beef short ribs, chicken teriyaki, and marinated crab are best added to the restaurant’s signature hot pots.

Havana St. & E Ilif Ave.

When choosing what to order from Yemen Grill’s many delicious offerings, Antony says you can’t go wrong with this cafe’s kebabs — chicken or lamb served over rice or with fries. The menu also spotlights other Middle Eastern favorites such as hummus, grape leaves, baba ghanouj, and more.

Havana St. & E Jewell Ave.

On South Havana Street, Snowl expertly blends dessert and fish — well, not in flavor, but in artistry, with fish-shaped taiyaki waffles filled with red bean paste, chocolate, or sweet potato with cream cheese.
