Your Guide to April in Denver

00:00:00

April in Denver can be a wild ride — often warm and sunny enough to play frisbee in the park, yet still with enough risk of rain and snow to warrant keeping your puffy coat out. But don’t worry, we’ve got event recs for all types of weather. So bust out your social planner, here’s our monthly guide to the Mile High for April.

Catch a Game at Coors Field

April means the start of baseball season. The Rockies themselves may not be much to look at (I mean, we all saw the season opener 🤦🏻‍♀️) but a beautiful springtime day at Coors Field shouldn’t be missed — the hotdogs, the beer, the 7th inning stretch. And hey, lots of ~good~ teams are still slated to visit the Mile High, so grab a ticket and revel in the vibes (if not a victory).

Try Something Whacky

In the most surprising matchup since pickles and peanut butter, New Belgium Brewing and Tombstone Pizza have come together to create the Voodoo Ranger IPizzaA — a curious and confusing craft beer / frozen pizza hybrid that is made with New Belgium’s popular Voodoo Ranger IPA brewed with tomato powder, oregano extract, and “other natural flavors.” The limited-time concoction will be available starting April 7 for $49.99 per 4-pack in “un-named select markets.”

Cool Off with Some Fruta Preparada

As the winter starts to thaw and the temps start to rise once more, so too does that craving for something cool, refreshing, and altogether sweet and spicy — I’m talking about fruta preparada, otherwise known as Mexican fruit cups filled with slices of mango, melons, and pineapple, then drenched in chamoy and sprinkled with tajín. A true springtime delicacy. Find them here.

Soak Up the Sun

Read a book in the shade of a City Park tree, stroll leisurely around the lake at Wash Park, or get into a wicked game of spike ball just about anywhere there’s a little green space. Here are our favorite Denver parks to get your started.

Hang with the City Cast Denver Crew!

Shameless plug, but completely authentic recommendation: learn more about transit in the Mile High — how it impacts the city, how it can be improved, and how it fits into our future — at The Road Ahead 2024 transportation seminar. City Cast Denver podcast host, the one and only Bree Davies, will lead a panel discussion with local transit experts in between networking sessions, keynote presentations, and light snacks. The event will take place at the University of Denver from 8-11:30 a.m. on April 25. Tickets are $20.

Get Your Thrift On at Thrift Con

It’s time for spring cleaning! Out with the old, and in with the … vintage? That’s if you visit ThriftCon, the “world’s premier vintage clothing and collectibles convention.” Some 140-plus vendors will be selling prime fashion picks (plus vinyls, posters, and other nostalgic memorabilia) from across the decades. The two-day event will take place at the National Western Complex, April 27-28, with tickets starting at $14.
