On my plate this week: Antonio’s Real New York Pizza. OK, hear me out: you’ll have to make a trek to get this pizza, but come on, just look at it 👆 Antonio’s is located in Estes Park, but I chose break form and highlight this out-of-town pizzeria because, well, it’s Pizza Week! And all is fair in love and pizza. Also, because it’s some of the best pie I’ve ever had in Colorado, and that’s what Pizza Week is all about right? Plus, if you were at the Colorado Pizza Pop-Up in Westminster over the weekend, you likely got to nab a slice (or three…)!
Antonio DeSousa and his family came to Colorado from Long Island, NY, back in 2006. It didn’t take him long to realize there was a gaping New York-shaped pizza hole in Colorado, and he spent nearly a decade refining the perfectbubbly, cheesy, crunchy New York-style Sicilian pizza recipe
🍕 He opened Antonio’s Real New York Pizza in 2014 and has been the (literal) talk of the town ever since.I first discovered Antonio’s during a trip to Estes Park a few years ago. Google proffered a number of run-of-mill pizzeria names to pick from, but it’s when I started asking the locals where to go that all fingers pointed the same direction: to a 6,000-square-foot, nondescript, adobe-inspired building set back from the road and roughly 1.5 miles from the main strip of shops. You might not look twice on first passing, but one bite of pie and your eyes will be opened to the beautiful, shining pizza beacon that it is 🙌
Rating: 10/10 every time.
